Art Deco to Riverdale

The Bronx has some of the city’s best Art Deco apartment buildings, especially along the Grand Concourse, with corner windows, casements and generous rooms. Riverdale and Fieldston have large homes and co-ops looking west over the Hudson to the Palisades. Pelham Bay, Throgs Neck and City Island have houses near the water. Newer buildings are going up across the South Bronx with modern glass.

Why drapery matters here

Corner and casement windows. Art Deco corner windows need drapery on two walls that meets cleanly at the corner, with tracks that don’t block the casements from opening.

River views and western sun. Hudson-facing windows in Riverdale get strong afternoon light. Sheers soften the glare without losing the view, and blackout layers protect bedrooms.

Warmth in older buildings. Lined and interlined drapery adds insulation to older windows in winter.

Privacy on busy avenues. Layered sheers and lined panels give privacy at street level.

When motorized makes sense

Wide view windows, corner windows with several panels, and tall living-room windows are easier to manage on a motorized track.

The Bronx
questions

How do you handle corner windows?

We use two tracks that meet at the corner, or a bendable track, so the panels close cleanly.

Can drapery reduce afternoon glare from the river?

Yes. Solar sheers cut glare and heat while keeping the view.

Do you work in co-op buildings?

Yes, with a COI and scheduling that follows building rules.
